Great Story On NFL Spin Control

The National Football League is the 8,000-pound colossus of American sports, dominating TV ratings and public interest.

But the NFL and its teams also are showing their weight in a distasteful way, trying to control and restrict media access to coaches and players, as detailed in this excellent story from The Kansas City Star.

It's bad enough that shameless spin control is a way of life for Tony Snow and the Bush PR machine. But at least they're trying to spin issues that really matter.

But football? Come on. It's a great game, but the NFL and teams need to realize that the same fans who pay their salaries also want unfiltered news about their favorite teams and players.

The NFL can't take and refuse to give.
